We recently collected gently worn shoes for the Soles4Souls project. These shoes were collected to be taken to areas of extreme need and poverty. The last day to bring shoes was Friday, February 26. We collected over 150 pairs of shoes.
The Honor Society had a very successful "Parkside Elves" project this year. Thank you for helping us make dreams come true for more than thirty children in less fortunate families. Special thanks to Walker Brothers& to the Baileyton Town Council.
The Annual Womanless Beauty Pageant was held on October 6. Our overall winner was Mason Smith, who raised over $60. Honorable Mention goes to Tanner Johnson, who raised over $50. First alternate was Casey Davis. Second alternate was Eric Murphree. Third Alternate was T Maze. Miss Congeniality was Nicholas Thompson. Thanks to all of our participants and their parents!
Our Second Annual Halloween Costume Contest was held on Friday, October 30 at 8:00 am in the gym. Prizes were given for best costume, funniest costume, scariest costume, prettiest costume, and most original costume. Students and teachers had a lot of fun!
Alabama/Auburn week began on November 16. November 24 was Alabama/Auburn Day. Alabama fans raised the most money for our Christmas families. Roll Tide!
We are participating in a "reading buddies" program with students in grades K-3. The reading schedule has recently changed. Honor Society students read two days per week with kindergarten, second, or third grades.
Honor Society members are chosen based on academic record and recommendations from teachers. Honor Society members must maintain an overall average of 87 or above in their four core classes and also must participate in service projects throughout the year..

Eighth Grade Assignments
- We are working on reading and writing poetry.
- Due to being out for snow days and many absences due to sickness, the poetry project due date has been extended to Thursday, March 11. Click here for the assignment sheet. This project is worth four 100 point test grades. These grades will be reflected on the fourth nine weeks report card.

Seventh Grade Recent Test Grades
- Practice writing assessment - Narrative was done in class on Thursday, January 21.
- Narrative essay homework was assigned on Wednesday, January 20 and turned in the following day.
- A narrative essay was written on Friday, January 15, for a test grade.
- A quiz on writing prompts was given on Wednesday, January 13.
- Warm up test #41-50 was on Tuesday, February 9.
- Vocabulary test on lessons 13-14 was Tuesday, February 16.
- Literary Terms test was Friday, February 19.
- Vocabulary test on lessons 15 & 16 was Friday, February 26.
- A narrative essay was written in class on Wednesday-Thursday, March 3-4.
Eighth Grade Recent Test Grades
- Vocabulary 9-10 test was given on Tuesday, January 26.
- Warm up test #41-50 was on Tuesday, February 9.
- A test on Vocabulary lessons 11-12 was Wednesday, February 17.
- Poetry terms test was Friday, February 26.
- Vocabulary test on lessons 13-14 was Friday, March 5.

STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO TAKE AND PASS TWO A.R. TESTS EACH NINE WEEKS. THIS IS 20% OF THEIR ENGLISH GRADE.
STUDENTS WHO MAKE 65 OR BELOW ON ANY TEST MAY HAVE THE TEST SIGNED BY A PARENT/GUARDIAN & RETURN IT TO ME WITHIN 2 DAYS FOR AN EXTRA 5 POINTS ADDED TO THAT TEST GRADE.
Students must complete their grammar warm ups every day in order to pass the open notebook Warm Up tests. Warm ups should be kept in a binder, in numerical order.
