Truancy
Any student with 5 unexcused absences will be referred to Juvenile Court. If a student has 7 unexcused absences the parents or legal guardian will be prosecuted.
Course Credit
Any student who misses any class more that 6 unexcused days in any school year will be denied credit for that class for that school year.
Excused Absences
Illness, death in immediate family, emergency conditions as determined by the principal, legal quarantine, summons to court, prior approval of the principal upon request from the parent or guardian. Any absences not excused shall be considered unexcused (vacations, weddings, etc.).
If your child is absent from school, make sure that they bring an excuse the day they return to school (note from medical facility or doctor, funeral home, attorney, etc., or a note from home). Cullman County Schools will accept notes from parents as excused absences as defined above for no more than three days per semester.
Make-up Work
For excused absences, teachers will allow students no more than one week to complete and turn in any assignment that was assigned during the absence.
Any test that was given during the excused absence but assigned while the student was present will be made up on the day the student returns to school.
Any special assignment (projects, book reports, etc.) for which the student has had several weeks to prepare will be due the day the student returns to school. On the day the student returns, he/she should turn in the special assignment before homeroom.
Any unexcused absence will result in a zero for all assignments missed on the day of the absence.
It is the STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY to request any missed assignments from his or her teacher and to return those assignments within the allotted time frame.
